Week 3 Recap: Atlas Rising – Connecting Pulumi and Ansible
Let’s Talk About My Last 30 Days with AI
Days 11–15: Building Atlas
What’s good FAM! We’re three weeks into this 30-day AI engineering adventure—and things just leveled up.
At this point, _Kodax (my AI junior engineer) already proved it could deploy compute across AWS and GCP. That was big. But the question became: how do you manage all those resources consistently? Anyone who’s worked infra at scale knows—you don’t just spin up machines, you need to configure, track, and control them.
Pulumi Meets Ansible
This week I connected two powerful tools:
And because both are code-driven, that meant one thing: more code. Except I didn’t write most of it—_Kodax did.
The missing piece? An inventory system. At Twitter, managing infra at hyperscale meant knowing every node, its role, its apps, and its configs. So I built a new host database and named it Atlas.
Atlas does three things:
Stores node inventory with naming conventions that scale across regions.
Assigns roles to machines automatically.
Ensures applications are installed, deployed, and configured consistently.
Now our platform isn’t just spinning up compute—it’s managing it at scale.
What We’ve Accomplished in 3 Weeks
Successfully deployed resources across AWS and GCP.
Built a configuration management layer with Ansible.
Developed Atlas, a Tier-0 host database service with its own Python + Go client.
What’s Next
We’re preparing to launch the orchestration layer—a platform that will schedule workloads across multiple regions, creating a unified compute fabric for AI workloads anywhere in the world.
And here’s the wild part: 96% of this code was written by AI. I only touched 4%. Let that sink in.
We’re 80% complete, and I can confidently say we’re building something that rivals what took me 10 years to learn in hyperscale environments. Except this time, it’s powered by AI.
Stay tuned—Week 4 is about to be a game changer.
