We're moving fast on this journey to tech greatness! You comin'?
What’s good, newsletter fam!
Can you believe it’s the end of February already?! Wow.
We hope you all had a great Black History Month and were able to learn a few new things about the incomparable contributions to society made by those who look like us, and possibly get more familiar with black excellence in tech.
Regardless of the month though, what we do is always for the culture. Y’all know that!
In this installment of the #TheTechHustle newsletter, we have a good mix of info to share, starting with a few gems that’ll up your tech knowledge a notch or two.
And can we get a round of applause for wrapping up another season of #TheTechHustle Podcast 🎙!
So, we’re saying goodbye to Season 2, but the excitement for Season 3 is way up!
After getting through all the gems, nuggets, and news on the agenda, we’ll close out with some major announcements and updates that you don’t want to miss. Trust us.
But, enough intro talk, let’s get to what you came here for!
As always: If you’re new here, WELCOME. If you’re true here, WELCOME BACK!
Let’s goooooo!
Tech Talk Gems: How the Internet Works
👨🏾💻:That’s right, good people, the 💎 I’m dropping on you this month are all about how the internet works.
Talk about taking it back to the basics, right?!
Honestly though, I really appreciate being able to dial it back a bit and talk about this.
We’ve been covering some high-level tech topics on the podcast this season, but the basics are as much a part of leveling up in your tech journey as the specialty knowledge and training you’ll acquire along the way. They’re building blocks, really.
Plus, this is knowledge I know will benefit you no matter what tech path you’re on: systems engineering, cloud engineering, DevOps, and even software engineering.
SHAMELESS PLUG: So, real quick, have you heard of our new hangout spot… #TheTechHustle Community 🤝🏽, where you will meet and interact with like minded techies that are either new to the keyboard or been at it for years. Check us out!!!
Gems from Season 2, Episode 7 (TTH Podcast)
So, a question posed to me by one of our listeners went something like this: BobbyD, can you teach us something basic? If I went to a job interview and they asked me how the internet or computers work, how would I answer?
Great question.
Let me start by making these two important points:
Every one of our phones is a computer. Every single one.
Every computer you use/carry talks to another computer.
This said, the way the internet and computers work becomes easier to understand once you’re familiar with all the components.
The simplest way I can break it down is like this:
💎 The cloud is not some ‘bubble in the air.’ Each time you access or do anything with the cloud, your computer is talking to another computer.
💎 An IP address is one of the main things computers use to carry out the ‘talking’ they do with one another. IP is short for Internet Protocol - think of it as a phone number for your computer. The IP tells your computer how to talk to other computers and vice versa…
💡 Raymond’s Nuggets!
Now we have Raymond’s Nuggets – the tidbits of info we didn’t know we needed.
Be sure to tell him thank you; just don’t call him Ray Ray! (I don’t make the rules.)
🤷🏾♂️:ℹ️ Down for the Count: AMC’s App and Website Crash During Ticket Presales
The website and app for AMC Theaters—the world’s largest movie theater chain—both chucked the deuces for a few hours on the day ticket presales for the highly anticipated Dune: Part Two (in theaters March 1) was scheduled.
Makes you wonder how a company like AMC was underprepared for the website and app traffic it received knowing how anticipated this film is. But! Things happen. The issue was eventually resolved, and ticket presales continued as planned.
2024 is looking like a great year for movies…
📰 DHustle’s News & Current Events (February)
💆🏽♂️:It’s always some big news coming out of the world of tech! Here are some headlines that recently hit the press:
Microsoft Layoffs: Cut 1,900 jobs, mainly in gaming division, due to tough year. Indicates strategic shift, possibly conceding to Sony in gaming competitiveness.
Apple iOS 18: In development, following iOS 17.3. Expected features include AI enhancements and user experience improvements. iOS 17.4 coming soon with new features; iOS 18 projected for 2025.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Features AI, top-tier camera, and extended updates. Despite its high price and bulkiness, it challenges iPhone loyalty with its advanced functionalities.

Say it with me: Yesterday’s price isn’t today’s price!
✨ II) #TheTechHustle Podcast 🎙
Another season in the books—and what a season it was!
This is a major accomplishment. Ten episodes done and dusted, and now we’re gearing up to bring you all a bigger and better production for Season 3!
Goals for Season 3 of #TheTechHustle Podcast 🎙:
More guest speakers
More segments (‘Backstage with BobbyD’ coming in hot)
A lot more opportunities for y’all to get involved with TTH
Shout out to the #TTH community, though!! Y’all are our pride and joy! Seriously, without each and every one of you, none of this would be possible. Big ups to the next level—for all of us!
And if you haven’t already, go back and listen (or re-listen) to all the Season 2 episodes. There’s a lot of knowledge that will help you get your level up game right!
✨ III) #TheTechHustle is Hitting the Road! 🛣️
You read that right! We’re taking this thing to the streets, and the first stop in our tour is none other than ATL, baby!
Where are all our Atlanta tech peeps?! We want to meet you.
In March, we’ll be in your city, and here’s what’s on the agenda:
Podcast recording. We’ll be getting some fresh new content in for an episode in Season 3. Expect to hear about our travels and what we think about the tech scene down in ATL.
NSBE 50th Annual Convention. You can catch us at the National Society of Black Engineer’s conference that’s happening March 20-24, 2024. In addition to sharing knowledge in any and every way we can, we’ll also be offering resume review support to attendees.
ATL Cloud Conference 2024. Your truly (BobbyD) will be speaking at the Atlanta Cloud Conference that’s being held in Marietta on March 23. During my talk—titled: Behind the Cloud at Twitter 1.0—I’ll be going over topics like cloud infrastructure and containerization.
TTH Event (?). This is a big maybe as of right now; nothing has been finalized, but if time permits and the stars align, we’ll be putting together a small TTH event to meet those of you in the area.
This is going to be fun, and we are crazy excited! If you’re in the Atlanta area, consider coming out to show your support and meet the team! We’d love to have a convo with you and give you advice and knowledge that will help you on your tech journey.
✨ IV) #TheTechHustle GitHub
Tell me you’re trying to level up in your tech journey without telling me you’re trying to level up in your tech journey.
One way to do that is to invest some time in getting your knowledge on over on the TTH GitHub. There’s no such thing as too much learning. This knowledge will always come in handy.
All our courses are currently open source.
👋🏾…Not Goodbye, Just See You Later…
And that wraps February!
Another rung on the ladder that’ll lead you to greatness…but only if you let it.
Hopefully there’s some info you found valuable in this newsletter. Take what resonates and use it to get you started on the next phase of your tech journey.
Until next time! Peace!
